Thanks for visiting my website. I’m a bilingual lawyer (Spanish). I opened my law firm in Chicago in the late 1990’s. I have since moved my offices to Elgin IL, serving the citizens of not only Kane and Cook County, but also the surrounding Chicagoland area. I help people with the following kinds of cases:
- Serious Injury cases- these are cases in which someone has been badly hurt (or killed) because of someone else’s fault.
- On a limited basis, Long Term Disability Denials/ ERISA cases – I handle appeals for people whose short or long term disability benefits have been wrongfully denied.
Need something that isn’t listed? Having been in the business for 20 years, I’ve met all types of lawyers- both good and bad. I have a network of trusted individuals that I can put you in touch with if you have the kind of case that I just don’t handle.
I am a native of Illinois and graduated from DePaul’s law school in 1996. I started my career at a large law firm in the city and four years later, ventured out to start my own firm, primarily in the area of personal injury. The work is hard but I enjoy helping people to see the light at the end of the tunnel and getting them from where they are now to where they need to be. Contrary to their advertising, insurance companies just do not take care of people when it comes time to pay a claim. This is especially true in cases of serious injuries. It is my mission to hold the insurance companies accountable when my clients have been seriously hurt because of someone else’s carelessness.
More recently, I became very interested in ERISA law. ERISA is Federal Law and dictates most private disability policies. These are short or long term disability policies that people generally sign up for at work. These insurance policies protect a percentage of someone’s income when someone is gets sick or becomes injured, and can’t work anymore. What I learned is that insurance companies deny valid disability claims with startling frequency. Appealing these decisions is complicated and the insurance companies don’t want people to hire a lawyer. The unfairness of it all made me determined to hold insurance companies accountable on the disability side, too.
On the personal side, I was raised in a bilingual household and am fluent in Spanish. My mother is from Mexico. My father’s side is Irish. My husband is from Chile. We have been married since 2001 and have two children. At home, I speak both languages with my family. My hobbies include reading, cooking, and doing jigsaw puzzles.
A lot of lawyers take too much for granted and do little in the way of educating their clients throughout the process. What I have found is that the majority of the people who I represent are good, hardworking people who are going through very hard times, physically. They know that they need legal help but usually don’t know what to expect or how to best prepare for it -since- fortunately, most people don’t need lawyers all that often. That is why I have written (free!) books, articles and reports- to help answer some of the most frequently asked questions that I have heard throughout the years, and to explain the legal processes in Illinois.
